Air India has launched a retrofit programme for its Boeing 787-8 fleet, partnering with RECARO Aircraft Seating to upgrade both Premium Economy and Economy cabins. The new, customised seats promise enhanced comfort and improved ergonomics for passengers on 26 aircraft.

Summary:

  • Air India’s Boeing 787-8 retrofit: RECARO seats in Premium Economy and Economy classes for enhanced comfort and ergonomics.
  • Customised seating: PL3530 and CL3710 seats provide improved recline, adjustable headrests, and integrated device charging.
  • Fleet-wide upgrade: 26 aircraft will receive nearly 6,000 RECARO seats, aligning with upgrades on the B787-9.

Air India has launched a retrofit programme for its Boeing 787-8 fleet in partnership with RECARO Aircraft Seating. As part of the programme, RECARO is equipping Air India’s B787-8 aircraft with its PL3530 seats in Premium Economy Class and CL3710 seats in Economy Class. Both seat models are customised to Air India’s requirements and are designed to offer enhanced comfort, refined ergonomics, improved recline, adjustable headrests, and integrated personal electronic device charging options.

The retrofit programme covers a total of 26 aircraft. In total, nearly 6,000 RECARO seats will be installed across Air India’s B787-8 fleet. The first aircraft has already been completed as part of the B787 retrofit programme. This retrofit aligns with the same RECARO seat models that are already flying on Air India’s recently delivered B787-9 aircraft.

“Lightweight design, comfort, and ergonomics form the ‘magic triangle’ that defines every product RECARO develops and delivers,” said Mark Hiller, CEO and Shareholder of RECARO Aircraft Seating and CEO of RECARO Holding. “We are proud to collaborate with Air India on both premium and economy cabins. The PL3530 embodies premium comfort, while the CL3710 is all about creating a truly comfortable living space for passengers. I very much look forward to continuing our excellent partnership.”
