Indonesia Eyes Sending Migrant Workers to Greece

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – Indonesia is working to accelerate the migrant worker placement in Greece through a government-to-government (g-to-g) scheme, according to Deputy Minister of Indonesian Migrant Workers Protection, Christina Aryani.

In her meeting with the Greek Ambassador to Indonesia, Dimitrios Michalopoulos, in Jakarta on Monday, April 20, Christina followed up on the results of her visit to Greece in November 2025 regarding job opportunities for Indonesian migrant workers in various sectors in the country.

According to Christina, there is quite the demand for Indonesian migrant workers in Greece, especially in strategic sectors—including hospitality—which could create concrete opportunities for the legal placement of workers.

“Therefore, we are pushing for the immediate start to the g-to-g MoU. We also request the Ambassador’s support in conveying this proposal to the relevant parties in Greece,” Christina said in a statement received in Jakarta on Tuesday, as quoted from Antara.

According to Christina, this measure is part of strengthening labor diplomacy, while also opening broader access to the global job market for Indonesian workers.

Christina said the ministry remains committed to ensuring that every job opportunity abroad is safe, structured, and provides maximum protection for prospective migrant workers.

“This collaboration is expected to be a concrete entry point for Indonesian workers to pursue careers abroad legally and professionally,” said Christina.

During her visit to Greece in late November 2025, Christina Aryani also met with Greek Deputy Minister of Migration and Asylum Sevi Voulodaki and several placement agencies and employers of migrant workers to discuss opportunities for placing Indonesian workers in the country.
