TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – The Jakarta Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) recorded dozens of flooded areas across the capital as of Friday morning, April 17, 2026, following heavy rainfall that hit the city on Thursday.

The heavy rain also raised water levels at the Depok monitoring post to Alert Level 3 at 09:00 PM and at Katulampa Dam to Alert Level 3 at 03:00 AM. BPBD Jakarta Data and Information Center Head Mohamad Yohan said 21 neighbourhoods were still inundated as of 08:00 AM.

Most of the affected areas are in East Jakarta. “There are 15 neighbourhoods in East Jakarta affected by flooding,” Yohan said in a statement on Friday, April 17, 2026.

He said flooding in East Jakarta spread across four sub-districts: Bidara Cina (2 neighbourhoods), Kampung Melayu (4), Cawang (7), and Cililitan (2).

“The water levels in East Jakarta range from 20 to 80 centimetres, caused by the overflow of the Ciliwung River,” he said.

Flooding also affected six neighbourhoods in South Jakarta, with four in Pejaten Timur still inundated on Friday morning, along with one neighbourhood each in Tanjung Barat and Rawajati.

Yohan said BPBD personnel had been deployed to monitor conditions in affected areas and coordinate with relevant agencies to pump out water and ensure drainage systems function properly.

“The goal is to accelerate the recession of floodwaters. We urge residents to remain cautious and alert to potential flooding,” he said.
