Punjab Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema recently initiated a comprehensive crackdown on tax evasion in the iron and steel sector.
Over 200 vehicles carrying iron and steel goods, valued at approximately Rs 5 crore, were detained during the operation. The crackdown targeted fraudulent billing and the transport of goods without necessary documentation.
Cheema confirmed penalties are expected to exceed Rs 3 crore, with proceedings initiated under GST law against violators. The enforcement efforts will continue, ensuring strict action against tax evasion across the state.
