Many Satpol PP Officers Have High Blood Pressure, DKI DPRD: Serious Alarm

JAKARTA – Dozens of members of the DKI Jakarta Regional Police (Satpol PP) in the past year have been under heavy working conditions and limited infrastructure, triggering scrutiny. In fact, many Satpol PP members have high blood pressure.

Member of Commission A of the DKI Jakarta DPRD Kevin Wu assessed this incident as a serious alarm over the issue of workload and operational support in the field.

Kevin assessed that the death of dozens of officers in one year could not be considered normal. He saw that there were fundamental problems in the management of human resources to the distribution of personnel.

“We in Commission A see this as a serious alarm. The figure of 35 Satpol PP members who died in a year and are associated with the workload and the lack of facilities cannot be considered normal. This shows that there are real problems on the side of human resources management and operational support in the field,” said Kevin to reporters, Tuesday, May 5.

According to him, this issue is not standing alone internally in Satpol PP. There is a connection with cross-regional device policies, ranging from planning employee needs to budget support.

“In my opinion, this is not only the responsibility of the internal Satpol PP. It must be seen more broadly, starting from the DKI Provincial Government as a whole, including the BKD (Regional Human Resources Agency) which regulates the needs and distribution of personnel,” said Kevin.

He also touched on the role of regional planning and budgeting which was considered to be in favor of the real needs of officers in the field.

Kevin reminded, excessive workload without basic facilities support has the potential to endanger the safety of officers. Extreme working conditions, long working hours, and minimal rest areas are considered factors that cannot be ignored.

“If there are officers who work long hours but are not supported by decent rest facilities, then something is wrong in the system,” he said.

The DPRD, he continued, will encourage a thorough evaluation, including a more humane work pattern, the addition of personnel, to the provision of supporting facilities in the field.

“In the future, this must be immediately improved, starting from evaluating the work pattern so that it is more humane, gradually adding personnel, providing decent rest facilities in the field, to routine health protection for members. This will also be monitored in the discussion of the budget and performance evaluation in the future,” he added.

Previously, the Head of the DKI Jakarta Satpol PP, Satriadi Gunawan, admitted that his members’ workload was quite heavy. Starting from long working hours to a lack of rest facilities. Satriadi revealed that the results of the latest health examination showed that many Satpol PP members had high blood pressure.

This was stated by Satriadi in a working meeting with Commission A of the DKI Jakarta DPRD. Satriadi asked the DPRD to consider adjusting the work pattern of officers and allocating budgets to ease the workload of the Satpol PP ranks.

“Yesterday we did a medical check-up, it turned out that the high blood pressure was extraordinary. Well, maybe please Mr. A Commission can pay attention to us,” said Satriadi at the DKI Jakarta DPRD building. Thursday, April 23.

According to him, the fundamental problem is not only the workload, but also the unavailability of decent rest facilities in the sub-district offices where members are on duty. He said, this condition forces members to rest as they please, even in inappropriate places.

“In the village office, they don’t have a place to rest, even though they are on duty 24 hours a day. Now they are still staying (resting) in the mosque, sometimes in the hallway. Then, how can they work well tomorrow to carry out the crackdown? It must be that the tension is high, “said Satriadi.

Satriadi also revealed the high death toll of members in the last two years. Throughout 2025, 35 members died, while in 2024 the number reached 42 people. He emphasized that the high number was due to the heavy working conditions and limited infrastructure.

The limited number of personnel also exacerbated the situation. In one neighborhood, the number of Satpol PP members is not ideal, so they have to work for long periods, even up to 36 hours.

“There are Satpol PP members who work up to 36 hours. Because the Satpol PP members in each village only number around 7-10 people. Well, why do we do 36 hours? Because the workload with the number of personnel is not proportional,” said Satriadi.
