Political parties showing their ‘true colours’, says Amanah leader | Malaysia

SOME political parties have began showing their ‘true colours’ as the Negeri Sembilan and Johor state elections draw near, said Amanah vice-president Datuk Mahfuz Omar.

He said these parties had no reservations about engaging in rampant politicking with the hope of staying in power or, in some cases, trying to remain relevant.

He called on all political parties to instead focus on delivering solutions to the plight of voters, who now want better jobs to offset the rise in living costs.

Referring to Kedah Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Muhammed Sanusi Md Nor’s statement, including a declaration that PAS can win 36 – 0 in Kedah, Mahfuz said it was not something new for him to be arrogant and dramatic.

“After all, this is Sanusi’s style to hit at his political rivals through half-truths and name-calling. But the fact remains … what has he delivered for Kedah?”

Mahfuz said that many political parties aimed to woo voters, but what matters is whether they performed when they held power.

He said at a time when there is a need to be united against the outside challenges of geopolitics, especially in a world rocked by economic issues, PAS continues to fight pitched battles with its former ally, Bersatu.

“Is it necessary? Why is there a need to split at this juncture? The reasons cited are unclear except that this leader cannot tolerate the other. Sounds like a power struggle among selfish persons,” said Mahfuz.

But the catch here is what power are they grappling with when they are not in government, asked Mahfuz.

“Imagine if they are given absolute power. How would they behave?”

Mahfuz said the true colours of PAS and Bersatu are starting to show in public, and he hopes voters can understand what is going on.

“The likes of PAS and Bersatu are simply political animals. They only know how to politicise anything or everything, but when asked to govern, the results speak for themselves.”

The states of Kelantan, Terengganu, Kedah and Perlis continue to lag behind states governed by the ruling national unity coalition of Pakatan Harapan (PH), said Mahfuz. – June 16, 2026
