KUALA LUMPUR: Muslim World League (MWL) Secretary-General Datuk Seri Sheikh Dr Mohammad Al-Issa said Malaysia plays an important and effective role in strengthening the values of moderation (wasatiyyah) and presenting a global model that can be emulated in harmonious co-existence.

He said Malaysia, with its multi-religious and multi-ethnic society, has successfully co-existed in harmony under a single constitution, anchored by noble values, an advanced legal system, and community practices that reflect the spirit of unity.

“Malaysia has presented an exemplary model of co-existence based on the values of tolerance. In the context of Islam’s position as the official religion in Malaysia, Muslims in the country have proven that Islam is a religion that emphasises tolerance, openness, co-existence, and a blessing to all mankind,” he said.

Mohammad, who is also the Chairman of the Muslim Scholars Association, said this in his address at the opening ceremony of the 4th Southeast Asia Scholars Conference organised by the Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (Jakim) in collaboration with MWL here on Saturday (June 13).

He said the MWL constantly seeks to engage with Malaysia through various platforms, including today’s conference, given the country’s role as an exemplary nation in strengthening the values of tolerance.

The 4th Southeast Asia Scholars Conference features speakers and panellists comprising prominent scholars from Asean countries, bringing together about 600 participants, including scholars, muftis, academics, researchers and Islamic intellectuals from across the region. — Bernama
