Prudential has started operations of its standalone health insurance business in India through Prudential HCL Health Insurance Limited.
Prudential Health India is majority-owned by Prudential plc, with HCL Group holding a 30% stake.
The company plans to offer health insurance through digital tools and services aimed at making cover easier to understand, buy and use.
India’s gross written health insurance premiums are estimated at around US$16 billion in financial year 2026.
The launch expands Prudential’s existing presence in India, where it has life insurance and asset management joint ventures.
In May, Prudential also announced plans to acquire a 75% stake in Bharti Life.
Prudential Health India will offer access to a network of more than 12,000 hospitals.
Naveen Tahilyani, regional CEO for Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, India and Africa, and Group Agency and Health at Prudential, said India was a strategically important market for the group and that the new business would focus on a simpler and more accessible customer experience.
