New pictures show huge crowds packing into the site, with stall canopies lining both sides of the roadway and visitors queuing for Hong Kong street food, sweet treats and drinks.

One image captures festival-goers browsing under rows of striped awnings decorated with lanterns and banners, while another shows families gathered around a recreated Hong Kong street sign and pedestrian island installed inside the market.

A separate photo shows traders serving freshly cooked snacks from compact food stalls, with steaming pans and grilled cakes on display as people watch on and place their orders.

The entrance to the historic market has also been given a makeover, with a banner in Chinese characters hung across the famous Barras archway to welcome visitors to the fourth annual Hong Kong-themed event.

Crowds later gathered in front of the main stage to watch a pipe band performance in full tartan dress, bringing a distinctly Scottish soundtrack to the celebration of Hong Kong culture.

The free two-day festival, organised by WeeUnion HK, promised to return “bigger, better and packed with even more amazing stalls”, offering a “culinary journey through the lively streets of Hong Kong” alongside crafts, live entertainment and cultural displays.

Ahead of this year’s opening, organisers issued guidance to visitors as the first day of the market coincided with Celtic’s title-deciding clash with Hearts at nearby Parkhead.

The said they were working with police and Barras security and suggesting drivers park near Glasgow Green “to help avoid congestion around the area” while aiming to deliver a safe and enjoyable event for everyone.
