It is the weekend before the annual Hong Kong Sevens comes into town, drawing rugby fans from around the world. Take this weekend to perhaps indulge in the calm before the storm, attending introspective exhibitions, eco-friendly local markets and restorative fitness classes.

Here are five things to do in Hong Kong this weekend, to ease yourself back from the long Easter weekend and to savour the quiet before the Sevens.

1. The Majestic Han

On view until September 20, this extensive showcase features 252 invaluable artefacts, including 49 significant archaeological finds unearthed in Hong Kong. Spanning a vast range of media, from bamboo slips and silk manuscripts to intricate goldwork, the exhibition offers an intimate look at Han society.

Through the unearthing of daily life, economic expansion and scientific achievements, the collection highlights the pluralistic nature of Chinese culture and Hong Kong’s historical role in the early Maritime Silk Road. Highlights include hanfu clothing, pottery dogs kept in tombs and banliang coins with clipped edges that suggest economic pains.

Located in Kowloon Park, the exhibition is free and open to visitors every day except Thursdays.
