Alexandria Port explores maritime cooperation with Malaysia

Alexandria Port Authority and Malaysia have discussed stronger cooperation in maritime transport, ports, trade and logistics.

Alexandria Port Authority has discussed stronger maritime cooperation with Malaysia during a visit by the Malaysian Ambassador to Egypt and an accompanying delegation.

The meeting focused on maritime transport, ports, trade and logistics. Both sides also explored ways to exchange expertise and strengthen commercial links between Egypt and Malaysia.

Alexandria Port presents development projects

The Chairman of Alexandria Port Authority’s Board of Directors highlighted the importance of closer cooperation with Malaysia.

He also noted Malaysia’s role in international trade and maritime transport due to its strategic position on the Strait of Malacca.

During the meeting, Alexandria Port Authority presented the port’s capabilities and recent development projects. These include upgrades to berths, terminals and logistics zones.

The authority has also modernised its operational systems and services. According to the port, these improvements have increased its capacity and competitiveness.

Direct links between port authorities

The two sides discussed establishing direct communication between Alexandria Port Authority and the relevant Malaysian port authority.

They also considered appointing designated contact points. This approach would help turn potential cooperation into practical initiatives.

The Malaysian delegation expressed interest in strengthening maritime and logistics cooperation with Egypt. It also highlighted opportunities to support trade, exports and imports between the two countries.

Memorandum of understanding under consideration

The Malaysian side expressed its intention to work towards a memorandum of understanding with Alexandria Port Authority.

The proposed agreement would define the framework and areas for joint cooperation. It could also support a new phase of practical collaboration between the two sides.

Alexandria Port Authority described the visit as an important step towards expanding Egyptian-Malaysian cooperation in maritime transport and logistics.
