WASHINGTON, D.C. –The American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) today announced the release of its 2025 Annual Statistical Report (ASR), which provides comprehensive data on the American steel industry and select data on the North American steel industry as a whole.

“The 2025 Annual Statistical Report underscores just how vital it is for our industry to have a clear, data-driven picture of where we stand,” stated Kevin Dempsey, President and CEO of AISI. “In a moment when trade policy and market conditions are shifting so quickly, the ASR gives analysts and the broader steel community a reliable foundation for understanding the domestic steel industry. It remains the gold standard for steel statistics and analysis.”

The report highlights that, in 2025, shipments from domestic steel mills measured 91 million net tons (NT), up five percent from the previous year. U.S. raw steel production was 90 million net tons in 2025, a three percent increase from 2024. The report also shows that total steel imports into the United States decreased by 13 percent in 2025 compared to the previous year, while finished steel imports decreased by 17 percent over the same period and captured an 18 percent share of apparent steel consumption. The report also notes that the construction and automotive industries continued as the leading end-use markets for shipments of U.S. steel products.

The AISI ASR is the most comprehensive reference of its kind, providing extensive coverage of the American steel industry and selected statistical data on the Canadian, Mexican and world steel industries. It features dozens of charts and graphs, including selected statistical highlights on shipments, apparent supply, imports, employment and raw steel data over a 10-year period; selected financial highlights; shipments by products and markets over a 10-year period; raw steel production (including selected state-level production data) and capability utilization; and detailed imports and exports data.

A copy of the 2025 Annual Statistical Report can be purchased by visiting the S&P Global Steel Data and Analysis website or by calling 1-800-PLATTS-8.
