Chemical manufacturer expands solar power use to strengthen operational resilience and accelerate long-term sustainability

Chemical distributor, manufacturing and industrial solutions company, PT Lautan Luas Tbk, has partnered with Portugal-based Greenvolt Power Indonesia to expand the use of solar power across its operations, marking a significant step in the company’s long-term energy transition strategy and sustainability roadmap.

The partnership was formalized through the signing of a heads of agreement during Lautan Luas’ 75th anniversary celebration. The agreement will support the development of a more integrated solar energy program after the company previously deployed rooftop solar systems at two of its subsidiaries.

Indrawan Masrin, President Director of PT Lautan Luas Tbk said the pre-contract agreement reflects the company’s commitment to build a sustainable business ecosystem for customers, communities, and future generations.

“The 75th anniversary marks the foundation of Lautan Luas’ transformation from implementing solar power at the subsidiary level toward a more integrated approach,” Indrawan said, Tuesday, August 4, 2026.

Strengthening operation resilience

Lautan Luas believes a wider adoption of renewable energy could strengthen operational resilience against energy supply challenges, mitigate rising energy costs, and meet the growing sustainability requirements of global customer and business partners.

“Our collaboration with Greenvolt Power Indonesia will help us implement this initiative more effectively and strategically while creating long-term value for the company and all stakeholders,” he said.

Greenvolt Power Indonesia under the agreement will support Lautan Luas through technical and commercial assessments, developing projects and financing structures, overseeing construction, providing long-term operations and maintenance services, and supplying performance data for environmental, social, and governance (ESG) reporting.

8 solar power facilities

The solar power systems will be installed at eight facilities across Greater Jakarta, and East Java, with a targeted annual generation of 1.7 million kilowatt-hours (kWh) of clean electricity.

The project is expected to reduce emissions from electricity consumption by around 1,400 metric tons of carbon dioxide equivalent (CO2e) each year, supporting the company’s Sustainability Roadmap 2022-2031.

Both companies will begin technical assessments, with construction of the first phase scheduled to start this year and the second phase planned for 2027.

Greenvolt Power Indonesia is offering the project under a zero upfront investment model, allowing Lautan Luas to preserve capital flexibility while accelerating its clean energy transition.

Adam Salter, County Director of Greenvolt Power Indonesia said large industrial companies require renewable energy solutions tailored to the technical, operational, and commercial requirements of individual facilities.

“Our experience across renewable energy projects in multiple countries, combined with our understanding of Indonesia’s energy sector, enables us to support Lautan Luas in integrating clean energy into its operations,” Adam said, on Tuesday. “At the same time, this collaboration will strengthen long-term business efficiency and resilience.”
