Held at Shek Mun Campus, International Christian School, on Friday 31 July, the two-hour event welcomed more than 50 participants from age groups ranging from under-6s to under-16s, giving them the opportunity to share the pitch with different age groups.

The session included young people from underserved local communities, players from local football clubs and members of a girls’ football team, giving participants of different ages and backgrounds the opportunity to enjoy the game together.

Led by Manchester City coaches, the afternoon featured a series of practical drills and activities designed to develop football skills while encouraging teamwork, communication and confidence.

Manchester City legend Shaun Wright-Phillips also made a special appearance, meeting the young players, sharing his experiences and getting involved in activities throughout the afternoon.

Alongside developing their abilities on the pitch, participants were encouraged to express themselves, support one another and enjoy football in a safe, welcoming and inclusive environment.

Participants worked in pairs on their ball manipulation in tight spaces. This progressed into groups working on their technical and tactical decision making in an opposed practice. Concluding with putting their skills into a small-sided game with continuous rotation.

The event showcased the power of football to bring people together and create positive connections with communities around the world.

The activation formed part of Manchester City’s wider community engagement programme during the Club’s pre-season tour, reinforcing its commitment to using football as a tool to inspire, empower and connect young people around the world.
