Dubai International airport projects up to 3m passengers in July

Dubai International airport (DXB) is set to handle nearly three million passengers in the first half of July 2026 as summer travel demand ramps up.

The busiest period begins on 2 July, with daily passenger numbers forecast to exceed 200,000. Traffic is expected to peak on 12 July, when more than 225,000 passengers are scheduled to travel through the airport.

Transfer passengers will account for around 50% of total traffic, underlining DXB’s role as a major global hub for international connections.

To facilitate smoother travel during peak periods, Dubai Airports has issued a series of travel guidance measures for passengers. Travellers are encouraged to arrive no earlier than three hours before departure and to use online or city check-in services where available through their airline. Families with children over the age of 12 are also encouraged to use Smart Gates for faster immigration clearance.

UAE flag carrier Emirates has also provided similar guidelines, including details on check-in and baggage drop facilities, available up to 24 hours before departure on most flights at no additional charge.

As part of summer programming, the hub has introduced promotions and rewards across select retail stores, alongside an interactive ‘I Heart DXB’ display with handwritten notes from travellers.

The outlook comes as Middle Eastern airlines continue to recover from disruption caused by the Iran war. According to recent International Air Transport Association (IATA) data, passenger demand among Middle Eastern carriers fell 28.8% year-on-year in May, but month-to-month the impact is lessening and the rate of decline was almost half that of April.

Separate data from Dragonpass also showed UAE travel demand increased 75% between April and May 2026, accounting for nearly 50% of activity across GCC hubs, highlighting the country’s strong recovery.

DXB has a consistent history of high passenger volumes, most recently handling 95.2 million travellers in 2025, its busiest year ever and the highest annual international passenger traffic of any airport worldwide.
