An exciting weekend of development rugby is on the horizon, as Hong Kong China U23 women are set to take on Singapore U23 in a friendly representative fixture with our Asia rugby neighbours. Hong Kong China Head of Performance Pathways Sian Moore has offered a view of what to expect from her team this weekend:

“Selection has been really competitive, the group that we have picked have shown huge energy and effort throughout the 7 weeks of the program.”

“We’re targeting an 80-minute performance Vs Singapore U23s and for the players to display the key technical and tactical detail that we’ve coaches within our program so far.”

“The purpose is to create an opportunity for our senior pathway players to be exposed to representative rugby. This experience aims to support/ drive their development as a performance player, person and athlete”

Hong Kong China Senior Age Grade: U23 Women v Singapore, 4PM, Queenstown Stadium. Live stream should be available and we will update the link here when it is ready.

On the other side of the world, a Hong Kong China men’s 7s development team will be competing in the fourth and final leg of the LIT Super Sevens Series in Hertfordshire, UK. With series champions set to be crowned and over 60 teams expected to take part, this is shaping up to be an unforgettable celebration of rugby sevens. Programme Lead Tomos Howells always looks forward to taking a group to LIT for exposure to a high standard of rugby 7s:

“LIT is a big part of our pathway, we engage a lot of players through these tournaments – the likes of Jack Combes, Cal Scott, and Matteo Avitabile have all been engaged through LIT so it’s quite pivotal.”

“It’s a really competitive arena. There are invitational international teams and a very strong club scene which is great competition for us and will challenge our young group. The average age in this group is 19.6 so it’s excellent preparation and we’re excited to get them in the mix. They look ready for it, it’s an exciting squad full of potential.”

Captaining the group is Kowloon forward Billy Rigby, who is looking forward to getting some exposure for his young group:

“We’ve had a really good preseason block which has put us in a good position physically. It’s a very young team which is super exciting and good to have a few academy players joining too. LIT can be unpredictable and very challenging, but we’re excited to get stuck in and play some good 7s for Hong Kong China.”

Fixtures, information and streaming details can be found here.

Congratulations to the selected team representing Hong Kong China this weekend:
