Premier League club Aston Villa will visit Jakarta for a pre-season friendly against an Indonesia All-Stars side on August 1 as part of its tour of Asia.
The match will be played at Gelora Bung Karno Stadium before Villa travel to Thailand to face BG Pathum United FC on August 4.
Villa will then head to Hong Kong to take on Bayern Munich in the inaugural Audi Football Summit on August 7.
Managed by Unai Emery, Villa begin their pre-season campaign against Walsall on July 21 before facing Borussia Mönchengladbach in Germany on August 15, their final warm-up fixture ahead of the new Premier League season.
Local promoter Sound Rhythm welcomed the club’s visit, saying it would give Indonesian fans a chance to watch one of Europe’s leading teams in action.
“We are proud to bring Aston Villa to Jakarta,” Ahmad Satrio, Head of Marketing Communication at Sound Rhythm, said in a statement.
“Aston Villa’s achievements this season have made them one of the most exciting and talked-about clubs in European football. We believe Indonesian football fans deserve the opportunity to experience that excitement directly.”
Villa enjoyed a successful campaign last season, finishing fourth in the Premier League to secure qualification for the UEFA Champions League. The club also lifted the UEFA Europa League title, ending a 30-year wait for major silverware.
