Japan delivered a dominant 4–0 victory over Tunisia at Monterrey Stadium, with Ayase Ueda scoring twice and providing an assist to lead the Samurai Blue to their largest ever World Cup win. Ayase Ueda produced a complete striker’s performance with two goals and one assist, directly contributing to three of Japan’s four goals. The forward opened his account in the 31st minute, collecting Ko Itakura’s through ball before driving a powerful right-footed shot into the bottom left corner from the edge of the box.

Ueda turned provider for Japan’s third goal in the 69th minute, playing a sublime first-time pass over the Tunisia defence for Junya Ito to run onto and finish. He then completed his afternoon with an 83rd-minute header from Kaishu Sano’s cross, rising in the six-yard area to nod home Japan’s fourth.

Captain Ko Itakura anchored Japan’s defence while providing a crucial attacking contribution. Itakura dominated the aerial battles and made timely interceptions throughout, consistently snuffing out Tunisian attacks before they could develop. His reading of play allowed Japan to control proceedings from the back, while his composure in possession enabled the team to dictate the tempo and build attacks patiently.

Leading by example in a match where Japan’s defensive organisation was never seriously threatened, Itakura ensured Tunisia failed to register a single shot on target. His dual contribution of defensive solidity and creative influence epitomised Japan’s complete performance in their largest World Cup victory.

Central defender Montassar Talbi endured a difficult afternoon at the heart of Tunisia’s back three. His most significant failing came in the build-up to Japan’s second goal, when he lost the physical duel with Ayase Ueda and allowed the striker to advance unchallenged before firing past Aymen Dahmen.

While Talbi attempted to organise the backline and made some clearances, the defensive structure repeatedly collapsed under Japan’s quick transitions and fluid attacking rotations. His passing out from the back was competent but created little offensive momentum as Tunisia struggled to establish any foothold in the match.

Part of a defensive unit that conceded four goals and rarely prevented Japan from accessing dangerous areas, Talbi’s performance symbolised Tunisia’s struggles throughout the tournament. With nine goals shipped across two matches, the Eagles of Carthage’s elimination was confirmed in comprehensive fashion.
