Türkiye-China Ties Deepen As Trade And Cooperation Reach New Highs
Relations between Türkiye and China are strengthening, supported by rising trade, improved connectivity, and closer cooperation on global affairs.
Türkiye and China are strengthening their partnership through increasing trade, diplomatic engagement and shared positions on key global issues, according to Türkiye’s Ambassador to Beijing Selçuk Ünal, The Caspian Post reports, citing Yeni Şafak.
Speaking on the anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries, Ünal said cooperation between Ankara and Beijing continues to expand across multiple sectors, reflecting a long-standing connection between the two nations.
Ancient Ties Continue into a New Era
The ambassador emphasized that the relationship between Türkiye and China predates formal diplomatic recognition by centuries. He pointed to the historic Silk Road as a vital route that connected Asia’s eastern and western regions, facilitating commerce, cultural exchange and diplomatic interaction between Turks and Chinese communities over generations.
“The Silk Road connected two civilizations and two nations. Today, that connection continues under different names,” Ünal said, highlighting the enduring significance of the historic trade network in shaping modern relations.
Trade and Connectivity Drive Growth
According to Ünal, economic cooperation has become one of the strongest pillars of bilateral relations. China has emerged as Türkiye’s largest trading partner worldwide, with annual trade volume exceeding $50 billion, marking a significant milestone as the two countries commemorate more than five decades of diplomatic engagement.
Growing transportation links have also strengthened business and tourism ties. Turkish Airlines operates regular flights to several major Chinese cities, while Chinese carriers maintain extensive connections with Istanbul. Passenger and cargo traffic between the two countries has continued to increase, supporting commercial activity and investment opportunities.
Expanding Diplomatic and Strategic Cooperation
Türkiye’s diplomatic network in China has expanded considerably, extending beyond its embassy in Beijing through consulates in major economic and commercial centers. This broader presence reflects the growing importance of China in Türkiye’s foreign policy and economic strategy.
Ünal said Ankara and Beijing are working in line with the vision established by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and President Xi Jinping to deepen cooperation in areas including trade, energy, artificial intelligence, connectivity and the green economy. He noted that both countries generally support international efforts aimed at promoting peace, stability and conflict resolution.
Shared Outlook on Global Issues
The ambassador underlined that Türkiye and China often approach regional and international developments from a similar perspective, particularly on issues related to preventing conflicts and supporting stability. He expressed confidence that bilateral relations will continue to advance in the coming years as both sides seek broader cooperation across strategic sectors.
