KUALA LUMPUR, June 20 — Malaysian shuttlers will be battling to make the finals of four events after advancing to the semi-finals of the men’s singles, men’s doubles (two pairs), women’s doubles and mixed doubles at the Macau Open today.

National professional shuttler Eogene Ewe got the ball rolling when he stunned second seed Jason Teh of Singapore 21-9, 21-19 in the quarter-finals at the Macau East Asian Games Dome.

In today’s semi-finals, Eogene will face China’s Hu Zhe An, who disposed of his compatriot Dong Tian Yao 21-15, 21-12 in the last eight.

Malaysia meanwhile will have two pairs in the men’s doubles semi-finals — Low Hang Yee-Ng Eng Cheong and Chia Wei Jie-Teo Ee Yi.

Hang Yee-Eng Cheong stole the show when they sent compatriots and top seeds Nur Azriyn Ayub-Tan Wee Kiong packing 14-21, 21-11, 24-22 in the last eight.

Hang Yee-Eng Cheong will face fourth seeds Ali Faatir Rayhan-Devin Arta Wahyudi in the semi-final.

Wei Jie-Ee Yi also fought for three games before subduing Taiwan’s Wei Chun-wei-Yang Po-chih 22-20, 18-21, 21-13, and will next meet South Korea’s Jin Yong-Lee Jong Min.

Malaysian women’s doubles pair Ong Xin Yee-Carmen Ting, the second seeds, powered their way to a 21-14, 21-16 quarter-final win over sixth-seeded Kim Hye Jeong-Moon In Seo to set up a last four clash against China’s Bao Li Jing-Cao Zi Han.

In mixed doubles, Malaysia’s Hoo Pang Ron-Lai Pei Jing defeated South Korea’s Cho Song Hyun-Jeong Na Eun 21-11, 21-13 to set up a semi-final clash against Jiang Zheng Bang-Wei Ya Xin.
