KUALA LUMPUR,  June 16 — Malaysian Pokémon fans, Kuala Lumpur is set to host a slew of events to celebrate the Pokémon 30th Anniversary celebrations.

Mark your calendar for September 12 and 13 because KL is going to be the first city in the region to host the PokeXciting party at KLCC Park, with a special drone show and the Petronas Towers as a backdrop.

There will also be stage shows that will feature beloved Pokémon mascots.

Entrance is free, no tickets required.

You’ve probably heard of the upcoming Pokémon Run, with the date confirmed for November 21-22.

More than just a run, there will also be fun activities such as Pokémon Gym experiences  as well as, of course, exclusive merch.

Most exciting for Pokemon fans is Malaysia’s first Pokémon popup store, with limited edition products, at the upcoming Ombak KLCC mall.

One souvenir worth snapping up is a limited edition t-shirt featuring Mario and Luigi and Toad, inspired by the Petronas Towers.

The store will officially open on September 12 so if you’ve been wondering when the mall will be open, I guess we just found out.

Ombak KLCC will also feature special Pokémon-themed decorations from October 1 to December 31, cycling through four different themes.

According to Datuk Mohd Salem Kailany group CEO of KLCC (Holdings), it is hoped that beyond enhancing the consumer experience, Pokémon players would embrace the location as a community hub.

On questions on whether a permanent Pokémon store could be in the works, Salem said that it was up to Malaysians to demonstrate to The Pokémon Company that “we want them here” by supporting the pop-up store.

Speaking of community, the KLCC Convention Centre will for the first time be hosting the Pokémon TCG Premier Ball league tournament from November 21 and 22, open to spectators and fans, not just players.

Expect more details in the coming months about the Pokémon Run as well as the Pokémon GO regional event that will also have Malaysia be the first country in September 2026, to be followed by Taiwan in October.
