US Secretary of State Marco Rubio arrived early Saturday on his first trip to India where he will meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the heels of US diplomacy with China.
Rubio arrived in Kolkata on the first of his four stops in India. He will visit sites of the late Mother Teresa before flying to New Delhi to meet Modi later in the day, according to the State Department.
Rubio’s trip comes one week after President Donald Trump held an upbeat state visit to China, with which the United States and India have historically had fraught relations.
