Google Cloud has suffered network disruptions in India after a fire at a third-party data center.
As reported by Reuters, the incident impacted network traffic from Delhi, Chennai, Mumbai and nearby regions, causing increased latency.
According to the Google Cloud Service Health page, issues began on June 9 at 11:22am, PDT.
“A fire at a third-party data center facility required an emergency power shutdown of networking equipment, isolating a non-compute local Point of Presence (POP) in Delhi and reducing available network capacity in the metro area,” the incident report states, noting that the company rerouted significant traffic from the impacted facility in Delhi.
“Customers may experience slightly elevated latency and non-optimal network routing into Google Cloud until the affected facility is fully restored,” the company said, adding that “there is no workaround at this time.”
Service disruption remains at the time of writing.
Details about the cause of the fire, or the facility in question, have not been provided. DCD has contacted Google for comment.
Google launched its cloud region in Delhi in 2021, the company’s second in India. The cloud and search giant is currently constructing a $15bn data center project in Visakhapatnam (Vizag), Andhra Pradesh, India, in partnership with AdaniConneX and Nxtra by Airtel.
