Italian Steel Output Falls 6.2% Month-on-Month in April 2026 | Federacciai Data – News and Statistics

Italian steelmakers recorded a 6.2% drop in steel production in April 2026 compared to the previous month, with output reaching 1.93 million tons. This information was disclosed by the industry association Federacciai, as reported by SteelOrbis.

On an annual basis, April production rose by 7.2% compared to the same month in 2025. Flat steel output for April totaled 743,000 tons, decreasing 9.3% year-on-year and 9.2% month-on-month. Long steel production amounted to 1.2 million tons, marking a 12.3% increase year-on-year but a 7.7% decline from March.

In January-April, Italian steelmakers produced 7.57 million tons of steel, exceeding the 2025 figure by 2.9%. In the flat-rolled segment, 3.1 million tons were produced, down 6.7% year-on-year. In the long-rolled segment, 4.6 million tons were produced, up 10.5% year-on-year.

According to GMK Center, Italy’s steel production for the full year 2025 increased by 3.6% compared to 2024, totaling 20.7 million tons. In December 2025, production volumes fell 17.5% from November but rose 20.5% year-on-year, reaching 1.45 million tons. Flat steel production in 2025 grew 3.8% compared to 2024, to 8.9 million tons, while long steel output rose 5.5% year-on-year, reaching 12.3 million tons.

Overall, European Union countries reduced steel production in 2025 by 2.6% compared to 2024, to 126.2 million tons. In December 2025, EU output increased 3.9% year-on-year, to 9.9 million tons.
