ENERtec Asia 2026 opens in Kuala Lumpur, spotlighting energy needs of AI and data centre growth

KUALA LUMPUR (June 3): ENERtec Asia 2026 opened on Wednesday at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (KLCC), bringing together energy industry leaders to discuss rising electricity demand driven by artificial intelligence (AI), data centres, and digital infrastructure expansion in Southeast Asia.

In a statement released on Wednesday, organiser Informa Markets Malaysia said the three-day event, co-hosted with The Electrical and Electronics Association of Malaysia (TEEAM), is expected to attract over 12,000 participants from 60 countries and feature 1,000 exhibitors across seven halls.

Under the theme “Energy & AI: The Synergy for Energy Transition,” discussions focused on energy security, grid resilience, renewable energy integration, and infrastructure upgrades needed to support rapid digital and industrial growth, particularly in Malaysia’s emerging data centre hubs such as Johor.

Speakers at the event highlighted the importance of renewable energy, Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), and grid modernisation to meet rising demand. Industry leaders said these systems are now critical infrastructure for sustaining economic growth and attracting digital investment.

“Renewable energy and intelligent energy storage are no longer future considerations,” said Informa Markets Malaysia chairman Tan Sri Abdul Rahman Mamat. “They have become critical infrastructure for economic growth and digital expansion.”

“As AI, data centres and advanced manufacturing continue to drive electricity demand across the region, countries that modernise their grids and scale reliable clean energy capacity will be better positioned to capture the next wave of high-value digital investments,” he added.

A key highlight of the opening day was a memorandum of understanding (MOU) between China’s CATL, a leading battery and energy storage company, and Malaysia’s Leaders Energy. The partnership aims to strengthen large-scale energy storage deployment and accelerate clean energy development in the region.

The event, supported by the Malaysian Investment Development Authority (Mida), Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (Matrade), and the Global Association of the Exhibition Industry (UFI), with support from the Malaysia Convention and Exhibition Bureau (MyCEB), runs from June 3 to 5, 2026.
