Britto Lorence was travelling on the long-haul journey from Dubai when he exposed himself in front of a woman and child
A perverted plane passenger exposed himself and acted indecently in front of a mother and her very young child during a busy Emirates flight to Newcastle. Britto Lorence was travelling on the long-haul journey from Dubai in June last year and had been sat beside the woman and her infant son .
A court heard that, as the woman got up to make her child a feed, she noticed that the 27-year-old had a blanket over his lap and his and he was acting indecently.
The pervert, of Abingdon Road, Middlesbrough, was reported to cabin crew and arrested upon arrival at Newcastle International Airport. As previously reported on Chroniclelive, he appeared in the dock earlier this year to plead not guilty to one count of outraging public decency and the case was listed for trial.
However, on the day the trial was due to start at Newcastle Magistrates’ Court this week, he changed his plea to guilty on the basis that he had exposed himself but was not performing a sex act. Brian Payne, prosecuting, said Lorence had been sat beside the victim and her child on an Emirates flight between Dubai and Newcastle on June 2 last year.
Mr Payne said: “[The victim] described the male [Lorence] having a pillow on his lap and he initially appeared to be asleep.”
However Mr Payne said the woman then spotted he was acting indecently.
Mr Payne continued: “She raised the alarm by going to cabin staff.”
In a statement, the victim said she had been “deeply distressed” by the incident but had tried not to get too alarmed on the flight for the sake of her son. Andy O’Hanlon, defending, said he had submissions to make on Lorence’s behalf but conceded a pre-sentence report would need to be prepared.
Adjourning the case for sentence on June 2, District Judge Kate Meek said: “All sentencing options remain open, including the option of an immediate custodial sentence or this being committed to the crown court for sentence.”
