ALERT: 50 new healthcare assistant job opportunities coming to Waterford

Bluebird Care is creating 50 new jobs across Waterford and East Cork this year, part of a nationwide recruitment drive that will see the home care provider hire 1,500 staff in 2026.

Vacancies are open for immediate start across both areas.

The Waterford roles will fill positions for healthcare assistants and nurses, supporting older people, and children and adults with disabilities to live safely and independently in their own homes.

Brian Egan, Managing Director of the local Bluebird Care business covering Carlow, Kilkenny, Waterford, Tipperary and East Cork, said, “These 50 new jobs across Waterford and East Cork reflect the rapid growth in demand for home care services in our region. We are looking for healthcare assistants and nurses who want to make a real, daily difference to people in their own homes and communities.”

“We pay competitive pay rates, cover mileage and pay for time travelling between customers, and we pay an annual bonus to all staff based on hours worked. Our team is part of one of the largest office support teams in the country, which means our frontline carers in Waterford and East Cork, many of whom are lone workers in the community, are properly supported with clinical advice, rostering, payroll and out of hours support.”

The recruitment drive will fill roles for Care Experts, nurses, care assistants, supervisors and operational support staff, as demand continues to grow for high quality, nurse led home care services across the country.

Supporting the announcement, Bluebird Care is launching a major national awareness campaign under the theme “Where You Belong”, with more than 120 outdoor advertising sites across Ireland, including billboards, digital screens and bus shelters.

New CSO projections based on Census 2022 show the number of people aged 65 and over is expected to exceed one million by 2030 and rise to 1.6 million by 2051. An ESRI report published in 2025 projects that home support hours required will increase from 28.7 million annually in 2022 to between 44.9 million and 54.9 million annually by 2040, growth of 57% to 91%.

Every €1 million invested in home care generates an estimated €1.9 million in economic benefits to the Irish economy, according to a 2025 BDO study.

Mark McInerney, Chief Operating Officer of Bluebird Care Ireland, said, “We are recruiting 1,500 people this year for rewarding careers backed by training, development and real purpose. If you want a role where what you do matters every day, this is where you belong.”

The preference to remain at home is reflected in recent Irish research. Sage Advocacy reports that more than 70% of older adults would find it emotionally difficult to leave their homes, while only 6% believe adequate independent living options currently exist.

Bluebird Care said successful applicants will receive structured training, ongoing support and career development opportunities as part of its nurse led model of care, which combines clinical oversight from qualified nurses with person centred support in clients’ own homes.
