Japanese Imperial Decorations awarded to four distinguished Arabs|Arab News Japan

TOKYO: This spring, the Japanese government celebrated 3,875 remarkable individuals, including 94 foreign nationals from 48 countries and regions, as recipients of the 2026 Spring Emperor’s Decorations.

These prestigious honors highlight exceptional achievements across fields such as technology, economics, sports, science and academia. The awards also recognize those who have worked to deepen Japan’s international ties and champion the nation’s interests.

This year, four outstanding individuals from Egypt, Jordan, and Morocco stood out among the Arab recipients, earning recognition for their remarkable contributions.

Some of the decorations will be presented by Emperor Naruhito and Prime Minister TAKAICHI Sanae on May 12 at the Imperial Palace in Tokyo. (ANJ)

Atef Moftah of Egypt, former General Supervisor of the Grand Egyptian Museum Project and its nearby area, received the Order of the Rising Sun, Gold and Silver Star, for helping improve Japan-Egypt relations in archaeology and tourism.

Ismail Khairat of Egypt, former Ambassador to Japan, was given the Order of the Rising Sun, Gold and Silver Star, for his work to strengthen ties and promote friendship between Japan and Egypt.

Sa’ad Abudayeh of Jordan, a former Political Science Professor at the University of Jordan, received the Order of the Rising Sun, Gold Rays with Neck Ribbon, for promoting academic exchange and better understanding between Japan and Jordan.

Mbarka El Ouazzane, former local employee at the Embassy of Japan in Morocco, was awarded the Order of the Sacred Treasure, Silver Rays, for her contributions to the activities of the Japanese overseas establishment.

From West Asia, Fatma Şahin, Mayor of Gaziantep Metropolitan City, received the Order of the Rising Sun, Gold Rays with Neck Ribbon, for promoting regional exchanges and fostering better understanding between Japan and Turkiye.

Some of the decorations will be presented by Emperor Naruhito and Prime Minister TAKAICHI Sanae on May 12 at the Imperial Palace in Tokyo.
