Investigators have found more suspected aviation fuel near the site of that high profile drug plane landing in northern Belize, adding a new twist to the case. Back on April tenth, a joint operation intercepted a Cessna aircraft in the Neuland area of Corozal, seizing more than twelve hundred pounds of cocaine and detaining several foreign nationals. Officers also recovered nine canisters of aviation fuel in an SUV near the coast, believed to have been meant for the plane. Police are now checking whether the newly discovered fuel is linked to that same operation. While no Belizeans have been charged, investigators say the case is still active, with intelligence work and surveillance ongoing.

“There is no way at this point to make a conclusive determination as to that. However, we are viewing – reviewing this discovery and it’s nexus to the April 10th incident. As Commissioner Rosada would had stated on the date of the first briefing that it is an ongoing investigation and it consists of intelligence gathering as well as surveillance. No Belizean has been charged, however, as Commissioner Rosato indicated on that occasion, it’s an ongoing investigation. I must state that the interaction with the Belizean was well documented, so we know exactly who they are and we are continuing with the investigation.”

“Are you guys under the assumption that it was the same nine that were found on the coastline or a different set of fuel?”
ASP Stacy Smith
“As I said, when we would not be able to conclusively say that or make any guess in relation to it, but they were found in the general era, so they are being reviewed as being related in terms of establishing a nexus between the two, if any.”
Police are hoping to make additional arrests in relation to the Neuland area narco plane interception soon.
