TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – The Amadeus Music Foundation Indonesia held its first public performance of the year, featuring the works of prodigy composers Mozart, Mendelssohn, and Bizet. The concert, titled “The Prodigies,” took place on Saturday, April 18, 2026, at the Jakarta Simfonia Hall in Central Jakarta.

The evening featured Henrik Hochschild, associate concertmaster of the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra and professor of violin at the “Felix Mendelssohn-Bartholdy” University of Music and Theatre (HMT) in Germany. The performance also showcased Ioana Cristina Goicea, a violin professor at the University of Music and Performing Arts (MDW) in Vienna.

The Amadeus Symphony Orchestra (ASO) performed well-known pieces such as Mendelssohn’s Violin Concerto and introduced compositions that had never been played before in Indonesia, including works by Mozart and Bizet.

Hochschild explained that prodigies are a special breed. According to him, child prodigies who successfully transition into adult musicians are a rare phenomenon. “Mozart, Mendelssohn, and Bizet are successful examples, and they were fortunate to have a strong support system, including parents, teachers, and schools,” Hochschild noted.

Ioana Cristina Goicea expressed her gratitude for the enthusiastic Indonesian audience. “Thank you very much. I am delighted to perform here,” she said.

The concert commenced with Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s Symphony No. 9 in C Major, K. 73, followed by Felix Mendelssohn’s Violin Concerto in E Minor, Op. 64, performed by Ioana Cristina Goicea. The program concluded with Georges Bizet’s Symphony in C Major.

At the end of the first half, Goicea presented an encore solo performance without orchestral accompaniment, while the entire orchestra presented the encore “Let it Be Dynamite, Mr. Strauss!” at the conclusion of the second half.

Who Is Henrik Hochschild?

Henrik Hochschild was born in Leipzig, Germany, and has served as an associate concertmaster at the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra since 1990. Hochschild began learning the violin at age 8 under the guidance of Gabriele Schwarz and continued his education at HMT “Felix Mendelssohn-Bartholdy” in Leipzig under Klaus Hertel (violin), Prof. Gerhard Bosse (chamber music), Günter Neubert (composition), and Prof. Volker Rohde (conducting).

In 1993, Hochschild co-founded the Gewandhaus Octet, performing regularly across various countries until 2003. Since 2000, he has coached violin and orchestras at the International Youth Academy in Pleystein, Oberpfalz, where he instructs children in various aspects of orchestral performance. His primary teaching position is at HMT “Felix Mendelssohn-Bartholdy,” where he has been a professor of violin since 2010.

Hochschild also collaborates with various youth orchestras, such as the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival Orchestra, Junge Deutsche Philharmonie, the Leipzig Hochschule Orchestra, “Landesjugendorchester” Saxony, and the Leipzig University Orchestra.

In Asia, he has taught at the “Affinis Music Festival” in Japan, conducting workshops on violin, chamber music, and orchestral training. Hochschild serves as the Special Principal Concertmaster of the Pacific Philharmonia Tokyo for the 23/24 season.

Who Is Ioana Cristina Goicea?

Ioana Cristina Goicea is an exceptional violinist of her generation. The Romanian-born musician won first prize at the 2017 Michael Hill International Violin Competition in New Zealand and was hailed as a “rising star in the music world.”

In 2018, Goicea won first prize at the German Music Competition in Bonn and received accolades at the International Violin Competition of Indianapolis. In 2019, she earned recognition at the prestigious Queen Elisabeth Competition in Brussels.

Goicea also won the J. Brahms International Competition in 2013 and was recognized at the “Fritz Kreisler” International Violin Competition in Vienna in 2014. She has performed as a soloist in renowned concert halls across Europe, Asia, America, New Zealand, and Australia, including the Concertgebouw Amsterdam, Konzerthaus Berlin, Cologne Philharmonie, St Martin-in-the-Fields London, Melbourne Recital Centre, Wiener Konzerthaus, Bozar Brussels, Meistersingerhalle Nürnberg, Shanghai Concert Hall, Athenaeum Bucharest, and Town Hall Auckland.
