WILFRIED NANCY will be hoping his introduction to Scottish football will have less blunders in it than Celtic’s announcement of his appointment to the London Stock Exchange.

The Frenchman has been confirmed as Brendan Rodgers’ successor on a two-and-a-half year deal and is taking charge of the team for the first time on Thursday.

The 48-year-old joins from MLS side Columbus Crew where he clinched the MLS Cup and Leagues Cup and was named Major League Soccer‘s coach of the year in 2024.

His major breakthrough came at CF Montreal where he took over from Thierry Henry in 2021 before guiding the club to the Canadian Championship a few months later.

He comes into Celtic with the ship steadied by Martin O’Neill having closed the gap to Hearts at the top of the Scottish Premiership as well as putting them on course to qualify from the group stages of the Europa League.

Nancy begins at the Hoops at a hugely important part of the season.

There is a top-of-the-table clash to come against Derek McInnes‘ side at Celtic Park on Sunday before a crunch meeting against Roma in the Europa League on Thursday.

They have then got the small matter of a Premier Sports Cup final against St Mirren on December 14.

It’s a massive three games for any manager never mind one coming into the building for the first time, getting his first taste of Scottish football and the dealing with the drama that inevitably follows.

And he’ll be hoping that there won’t be as many basic mistakes on the park as there were in the club’s announcement of his arrival to the London Stock Exchange on Thursday.

They have managed to spell his name wrong FIVE times.

In the correspondence at the top it says: APPOINTMENT OF WILFRED [sic] NANCY.

Then in bold letters it is titled Appointment of Wilfred Nancy [sic].

“Celtic is pleased to announce the appointment of Wilfred [sic] Nancy as the club’s first team manager to replace Martin O’Neill and Shaun Maloney who took charge on an interim basis, with Wilfred [sic] commencing employment from December 4 2025.

“The board of Celtic is pleased to welcome Wilfred [sic] to the club.

“The club would like to thank Martin, Shaun and the other members of the back room team for their work in recent weeks.”
