Croc Platinum Edition Adds Trophies and Time Trials, Existing PS5, PS4 Owners Get it for Free

Update [Mon 13th Oct 2025, 4:30pm]: Argonaut Games has revealed all with regards to the mysterious Croc: Legend of the Gobbos – Platinum Edition.

The good news is that this isn’t a full-on re-release that you’ll have to pay for again. On PS5 and PS4, Platinum Edition can be downloaded at no additional cost if you own the existing remaster.

The developer explains why it had to come up with a new version of the game, specifically on Sony’s platforms:

“When we initially launched the Croc: Legend of the Gobbos remaster, we didn’t include enough trophies to qualify for the Platinum trophy on PlayStation. And it’s not permitted to simply fix this with a patch. So we had to come up with a smarter solution: release a new version of the game with a comprehensive trophy set, including 16 new Trophies and the highly coveted Platinum Trophy.”

And here’s a breakdown of what’s actually included in the new edition:

  • A new time trial gameplay mode called Time Attack
  • Over 25 new additions to the Crocipedia.
  • The ability to toggle between different Croc Main Theme mixes in the main menu.
  • A bunch of bug fixes were squashed. Ker-Splat!
  • A handful of quality-of-life features and improvements.

Platinum Edition is out this week, on the 16th October. We’re glad that’s squared away!

Original Story: Croc developer Argonaut Games has just announced Croc: Legend of the Gobbos – Platinum Edition for PS5 and PS4 — but there’s some serious confusion surrounding the news.

As you may recall, Croc: Legend of the Gobbos — a remaster of the PS1 platformer — released earlier this year. It was warmly received by nostalgic fans, but its baffling lack of a Platinum Trophy rubbed some the wrong way.

Seemingly in response to that criticism, this newly announced Platinum Edition does throw a Plat and 15 additional Trophies into the mix. It also brings time trials to the table, along with new content for the title’s ‘Crocipedia’ mode, which grants insight into the original game’s development.

However, there’s no official word on whether this is an actual re-release or some kind of update to the existing game.

In this case, a re-release would seem crazy, given that the remaster only dropped six or so months ago. Crazier still would be Argonaut Games refusing to give players a free upgrade path.

You would assume that this is an update, then — but again, there’s no mention of either possibility in the trailer or its description, or on the studio’s social media channels.

We’ve reached out to Argonaut Games for clarification, so if we hear anything back, we’ll be sure to update this article.

Are you tempted to leap into Croc and grab that new Platinum Trophy? Would you buy the game again just to do that? Hold out hope in the comments section below.

Robert (or Rob if you’re lazy) is an assistant editor of Push Square, and has been a fan of PlayStation since the 90s, when Tekken 2 introduced him to the incredible world of video games. He still takes his fighting games seriously, but RPGs are his true passion. The Witcher, Persona, Dragon Quest, Mass Effect, Final Fantasy, Trails, Tales — he’s played ’em all. A little too much, some might say.
