Dealing with flood, fire or theft at home is an incredibly distressing time, full of financial anxiety and concerns over cherished, memory-laden items. But what follows can be even worse.

Consumer group Which? said last month that the often arduous process of making a claim on your insurance policy, and the looming worry that it might be rejected, can be more stressful than the incident that prompted the claim in the first place. It lodged a “super complaint” with the Financial Conduct Authority in September, alleging that the regulator had “tolerated” poor customer service by insurers for “too long”.

Do you agree? We are looking for readers to share their run-ins with the home insurance sector.

Have you had a claim denied and later upheld when you fought for it? Have you had to jump through hoops just to get a straightforward claim approved? Do you agree with Which? and believe the insurance sector is broken and in need of reform? Or are you happy with the service you’ve received?

If you’d like to share your story, please contact us at money@ft.com and mark your message “insurance”. We will not publish names or identify details of readers without their consent.
