British Gas launches new ‘half-price’ tariff and ‘free energy’ prizes | Personal Finance | Finance

British Gas has teamed up with Samsung to launch a new energy tariff, helping customers “save more” this winter. Those who own Samsung appliances like washing machines and tumble dryers, and even select phones, can sign up for the Samsung Weekend Saver Fix.

The new tariff will provide customers with half-price electricity every Saturday between 11am and 4pm. British Gas also offers half-price electricity every Sunday on the same hours to customers on the PeakSave scheme with a smart meter, regardless of their tariff. Customers who sign up for the Samsung Weekend Saver Fix will also be entered for the chance to win free energy for an entire year for their household. This amounts to £1,755 in savings—the typical annual cost to power a home, according to the energy company.

There are several Samsung appliances which could make you eligible for the new tariff. These include all Samsung washing machines, tumble dryers, fridges/freezers, dishwashers, ovens and vacuums.

The offer is also available on selected mobile devices, including Galaxy Smartphones, Galaxy Book, Galaxy Tab, TV and AV models, projectors and gaming monitors and selected residential air conditioning and air source heat pumps.

Samsung and British Gas have also teamed up on the Samsung SmartThings app, which is used by over 350 million people. Here you can schedule appliances to run when energy demand and costs are lowest.

Deborah Honig, chief customer officer at Samsung UK, said: “We know many households will be monitoring their energy usage as we approach winter. As well as providing excellent value through this new tariff,  this  collaboration with British Gas helps our customers take the guesswork out of understanding how much energy their home is using.

“Appliances can be alerted to run when energy is cheaper, all controlled through our SmartThings app, which connects to over 340 brands.”

1.2 million people are already on the PeaSave British Gas scheme launched in 2023, and they have saved a combined total of £30 million and 1606 tonnes of carbon emissions.
