  • Amazon will pay refunds to some Prime users as part of a $2.5 billion settlement with the Federal Trade Commission.
  • Eligible customers who subscribed between June 2019 and June 2025 could receive up to $51 in monetary compensation.

Amazon is set to pay out refunds to qualifying Prime users after a $2.5 billion settlement with Federal Trade Commission.

The retail giant agreed to the settlement to resolve an antitrust lawsuit the FTC filed in 2023 where federal officials alleged Amazon coerced millions of consumers into enrolling in Prime subscriptions and then made those agreements extremely difficult to cancel.

Amazon said in a statement after settlement was announced Sept. 25 that “it always followed the law” and that it worked “incredibly hard to make it clear and simple for customers to both sign up or cancel their Prime membership.” Amazon agreed to make some changes to its website as a part of the settlement.

The amount of money each customer gets from the $2.5 billion settlement is based on the total amount of Amazon Prime membership fees paid during the duration of their subscription. However, the amount maxes out at $51 per customer, according to the court order.

Here’s what you need to know about the Amazon Prime settlement.

Who can file a claim in Amazon settlement?

In order to be eligible for the claim Amazon users must have signed up for prime between June 23, 2019, and June 23, 2025, according to the court order.

Customers must have also must have tried to canceled the subscription with fail or signed up for Prime during a “challenged enrollment flow”. A “challenged enrollment flow” includes “Universal Prime Decision Page, the Shipping Option Select Page, Prime Video enrollment flow, or the Single Page Checkout,” per the court order.

Amazon has also previously confirmed with USA TODAY payments will be monetary compensation, not Amazon gift cards or credit. Payments will be processed by a third-party claims administrator.

How do I get money from the settlement?

It depends.

Two different settlement groups will be issued money depending on the circumstances of their case.

The first group to receive an automatic payment without having to even file a claim are those who used their Amazon prime benefits three-or-less times during any 12-month period of enrollment. Customers who qualify for this settlement should receive their payment by Dec. 24, 2025.

Those who do not qualify for the automatic payments, still have the opportunity to fill a claim. A third-party claim administrator will send out will send out information on who to fill a claim by Jan. 23, 2026. However eligible claimants will have to wait until July 23, 2026 to submit the claim.

How much will you get from Amazon settlement?

The amount of money each customer gets from the $2.5 billion settlement is based on the total amount of Amazon Prime membership fees paid during the duration of their subscription. However, the amount maxes out at $51 per customer, according to the court order.
