Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has highlighted the need to attack Russian oil refineries to help press Moscow to observe a ceasefire.
In a social media video released on Sunday, he said: “Practically every day or two, Russian oil refineries are being hit. And this contributes to bringing Russia back to reality.”
The Ukrainian military announced that it had struck an oil refinery and a gas processing plant in Russia overnight into Sunday.
The military said it was working to destroy critical enterprises involved in meeting the needs of the Russian armed forces. It added that it was also seeking to undermine the Russian military-industrial base to deprive Moscow of its ability to continue the invasion.
Meanwhile, the Russian defense ministry said on Sunday that its forces had “liberated” a settlement in Ukraine’s eastern region of Donetsk and another in its southern region of Zaporizhzhia.
US President Donald Trump had earlier said in a social media post that “property lines” had been defined by “War and Guts.” He had urged both Russia and Ukraine to stop “where they are.”
Trump plans to meet Russian President Vladimir Putin in Hungary. Analysts are waiting to see what will emerge from their talks.
