Hyderabad: In a record of its sorts in recent years, the Telangana Pollution Control Board (TGPCB) has shut down a staggering 305 industries for not adhering to pollution control norms in the State. In addition, the Board served notices to 1,234 industrial units for various violations.

The State is home to a total of 12,264 industries, which are in red, orange, green and white categories based on pollution severity. Between January 2024 and October 2025, the PCB gave nod to establish 2,620 new companies and issued Consent for Operations (CFO) to 3,521 units, after verifying compliance with environmental norms for air and water pollution control.

To ensure strict pollution management, 7,966 wastewater/hazardous waste samples and 3,807 air pollutant samples from various industries were collected during the same period. Laboratory results will determine further action against non-compliant units, the PCB said on Tuesday.

The officials who reviewed 2,069 industries issued notices to 1,234 units for various violations. After confirming compliance, closure orders were revoked for 697 industries, it said.

Further, a 24/7 online monitoring cell has been established to continuously track emissions and pollutants from 501 highly polluting industries. The task force committee reviewed 108 such industries for exceeding pollution norms and directed immediate corrective measures, warning of legal action for continued non-compliance.

As part of the Ease of Doing Business (EoDB) initiative, computerised scheduling of inspections has been introduced. From January 2024 to October 2025, 1,664 industrial inspections were carried out and 324 industries were reviewed, with necessary enforcement actions implemented.

In addition to night patrolling in industrial zones, the PCB said steps such as strict implementation of Zero Liquid Discharge (ZLD) systems in bulk drug and chemical industries, along with reuse of treated wastewater, contributed to pollution reduction in the State.

Further, the PCB established five common effluent treatment plants, 26 e-waste recycling units, four construction and demolition waste management facilities, and 12 biomedical waste treatment plants for safe disposal and recycling facilities.

To ensure quick complaint redressal, a toll-free helpline (10741) and a mobile application ‘Janavani – Kalushya Nivarini’ were launched.
