A Wolverhampton Council notice states that the proposed development is for the Glaisher Drive site which is celebrating its 30th anniversary next month. The plans comprise a hybrid application for full planning permission for ‘multi-phased site enabling works including demolition’ work and digging and for outline planning permission for a commercial building.

The application for hybrid plans will be lodged by the council’s city development unit based at the Civic Centre.

The notice states: “Hybrid Planning Application for full planning permission for multi-phased site enabling works including demolition, site clearance, ground remediation, excavation and reprofiling works, site access and associated infrastructure works.

“Outline planning permission for a multi-phased, severable commercial development of up to 19,245 square metres of light industrial, research and development, and office floorspace with ancillary car and cycle parking, creation of public realm, highway works, drainage, landscaping and associated infrastructure works. All matters reserved except for means of access.

“Any owner of the land or tenant who wishes to make representations about this application should write to the council within 21 days of this notice. ‘Owner’ means a person having a freehold interest or a leasehold interest, the unexpired term of which is not less than seven years, or in the case of development consisting of the winning or working of minerals, a person entitled to an interest in a mineral in the land (other than oil, gas, gold or silver).

“‘Tenant’ means a tenant of an agricultural holding any part of which is comprised in the land.

“The grant of planning permission does not affect owners’ rights to retain or dispose of their property, unless there is some provision to the contrary in an agreement or in a lease.”

The Science Park set up in partnership with Wolverhampton University in October 1995 has become a thriving site for scores of businesses and hundreds of workers a the site off Stafford Road, Bushbury.

The park’s website states: “This year, we’re celebrating 30 years as a hub for innovation, enterprise and growth in the West Midlands. Since opening in 1995, the Science Park has grown from a bold idea for supporting science and technology businesses into a thriving ecosystem of start-ups, established companies and businesses driving cutting-edge research, innovation and industry-changing solutions.

“Over the past three decades we’ve welcomed hundreds of businesses, supported growth at every stage, and championed collaboration across sectors – from advanced engineering and digital tech to health innovation and professional services.

“We’re proud of the vibrant business community we’ve built, reflecting the changing face of industry and innovation in the region. We have an exciting 30th anniversary event planned for October and can’t wait to share all the details with you.”
