Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal has given a positive response to Union Heavy Industries and Steel Minister HD Kumaraswamy’s request for the creation of nine new industrial parks across Karnataka under the National Industrial Corridor Development Programme (NICDP).
According to a statement from Kumaraswamy’s office, Goyal has confirmed that the proposal has been forwarded to the relevant department for examination and action in line with established procedures.
Kumaraswamy had submitted his formal appeal to Goyal on 13 November, seeking approval for industrial parks in Bidar, Raichur, Hubli–Dharwad, Mysuru, Hassan, Kolar, Mangaluru, Chamarajanagar, and Mandya.
He noted in his representation that such developments would spur substantial employment opportunities, draw private sector investment, and strengthen regional supply chain capacities.
He further argued that the proposed parks would support India’s broader objectives of expanding its manufacturing footprint, improving logistics systems, and enhancing industrial competitiveness.
The statement added that the envisioned parks have the potential to significantly reshape economic growth across the selected regions.
By attracting mid- and large-scale industries, the parks are expected to create stronger local job markets and encourage the development of specialised clusters.
Enhanced logistics networks and improved connectivity are also among the anticipated benefits, helping to reduce the economic disparities between various parts of the state.
Kumaraswamy emphasised that balanced industrial development is critical for Karnataka’s long-term progress, and the establishment of these parks would help distribute economic activity more evenly rather than concentrating growth in a handful of urban centres.
