KSEB submits proposals for charging stations in 128 locations under PM e-DRIVE scheme

The Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB) has submitted proposals for establishing electric vehicle charging stations in 128 locations under the Centre’s PM Electric Drive Revolution in Innovative Vehicle Enhancement (PM E-DRIVE) Scheme.

The proposals, submitted to the Ministry of Heavy Industries (MHI), cover a total susbsidy claim of ₹153.43 crore, according to the KSEB.

The PM e-DRIVE scheme is aimed at accelerating the adoption of EVs and strengthening the charging infrastructure network and the EV manufacturing ecosystem. The scheme offers 100% Central financial assistance for eligible projects on a first-come, first-serve basis through nodal agencies appointed in the States.

The Kerala government had appointed the KSEB as the State Nodal Agency in October this year.

A senior KSEB official attached to the EV Accelerator Cell of the utility said the KSEB proposals to the MHI cover higher-capacity EV charging stations that can cater to e-trucks.

The KSEB has entrusted the EV Accelerator Cell with the implementation of the scheme in Kerala. The decision was based on consideration of scale and technical complexity of the project. The chief engineer (renewable energy and energy savings) will have overall supervision of the scheme.
