A Regina-based company has been ordered to pay $55,000 after a worker was seriously injured while operating a forklift back in September of 2021.

According to the Saskatchewan Ministry of Labour Relations and Workplace Safety, Brandt Industries Canada Ltd. picked up the fine after the company was found guilty of a single violation of the province’s occupational health and safety regulations in Regina Provincial Court.

“The company was charged with contravening subsection 11-2 (2) of the regulations (being an employer fail to ensure that only trained operators are required or permitted to operate powered mobile equipment, resulting in the serious injury of a worker),” the ministry explained in a statement.

The charge stemmed from an incident on Sept. 2, 2021 when a worker in Regina suffered a serious injury while driving a forklift.

The court imposed a fine of $39,286.71, the ministry said, along with a surcharge of $15,713.29, for a total amount of $55,000.
