BANGKOK, THAILAND – The Faculty of Communication Arts at Chulalongkorn University, in partnership with the Asian Network for Public Opinion Research (ANPOR) and the Council of Mass Communication Scholars of Thailand (C.M.C.T.) is proud to announce its selection as the official host for the ICA Regional Hub Thailand 2026. Scheduled for June 6–7, 2026, this hybrid symposium will link Bangkok directly with the 76th Annual International Communication Association (ICA) Conference in Cape Town, South Africa.

For the first time in Thailand, communication scholars, practitioners, and graduate students are invited to submit their work and participate in this prestigious global network. Under the theme “Bridging Divides, Amplifying Voices: Communication and Inequalities from a Southeast Asian Perspective,” the hub serves as a strategic platform to integrate Mekong, Thai, and broader Asian contexts into the global conversation on communication equity and social justice.
To address the complexities of modern communication, the conference features seven interconnected research tracks: examining digital divides and algorithmic justice in Asia; representation, voice, and marginality; health and environmental communication; language, power, and decolonial knowledge; the challenges of polarization, disinformation, and civic participation; AI governance, power, and innovation; and marketing communication aimed at inclusive engagement.
Why Now: Navigating a Digital Crossroads Thailand and the Mekong region are at the forefront of rapid digital transformation. From the rise of Generative AI to platform-driven misinformation, these shifts risk deepening communication inequalities rather than resolving them. Despite these pressing realities, scholarship from Asia remains underrepresented in global academic discourse. Aligned with the ICA 2026 theme, “Communication and Inequalities in Context,” the Thailand Hub positions Bangkok as a vital center for global dialogue—ensuring that Asian scholars are not just participants, but leaders in shaping the future of communication.

Deputy Dean, Research and International Affairs, Chulalongkorn University
Associate Professor Dr. Alongkorn Parivudhiphongs, Deputy Dean of Research and International Affairs, said, “This is a landmark moment for our academic community in communication and media studies. By bringing this elite international network to Thailand, we empower our homegrown talent to lead the conversation with global experts on their own soil. We are proving that insights from the region are not just relevant—they are essential to solving the digital challenges of the 21st century. Our mission is clear: to ensure our voices resonate, loud and clear, in the global arena.”
