When it comes to ride-sharing platform Lyft (LYFT +4.24%), the company name and the ticker symbol are exactly the same. But even though it’s easy to remember this ticker symbol, buying it hasn’t necessarily been a good idea. Lyft went public in early 2019 at $72 per share. Now, over six years later, the stock has lost 73% of its value. In short, it hasn’t done well. Anyone who invested $1,000 in Lyft stock at the beginning has seen the value drop to just $272. Road cars are tested to their limit, but flat-out racing in the desert for thousands of miles takes things to another level. To help the Defender cope, the triple-radiator cooling setup of the road car has been swapped for an optimised, single unit with air coming from an enlarged front intake, new bonnet vents and through a particulate filter for sand. There are also four new fans to boost airflow during low-speed sections. All of this is pulled together through the use of a motorsport-spec electronics control unit, allowing for finer management of parameters for the engine and transmission. One…

Unlock the Editor’s Digest for freeRoula Khalaf, Editor of the FT, selects her favourite stories in this weekly newsletter.Rachel Reeves has succeeded in leading skittish UK bond markets to a safe place. Love or hate the politics of the Budget she delivered this week, it is churlish not to give her credit for that. Through all the drama on Wednesday, UK government bonds were conspicuously calm. Better than that, in fact, they have pushed higher in price since she spoke, pulling really long-term 30-year yields down close to 5 per cent, and benchmark 10-year yields to 4.4 per cent or so.…
Gold price (XAU/USD) trades in positive territory near $4,230 during the early Asian trading hours on Monday. The precious metal edges higher amid growing speculation that the US Federal Reserve (Fed) may cut interest rates in December. Traders await the release of the US ISM Manufacturing Purchasing Managers Index (PMI) report for November later on Monday. Expectations of continued monetary policy easing by the Fed have been a primary driver of the yellow metal price. Traders increase their bets on a December rate cut following recent weaker US economic data and dovish remarks from Fed policymakers. According to the CME FedWatch Tool,…

By GRETA SHUSTER Beacon Media Staff Writer After months of delay, the Zoning Board of Appeals voted unanimously Monday night to overturn a decision by Building Official Alfred DeCorte that the land uses and activities at 175 Post Rd. are permissible in a light industrial zoning district. In a packed community room in the Sawtooth Building, legal argument and testimony proceeded for more than three hours. Homeowners and direct abutters Vanessa Carlton and John McCauley of the historic William Rhodes House brought the appeal to the board in July. The appeal was first scheduled to be heard in September but…
Even after a strong year in the market, these three stocks look like solid values today. At the end of October, the stock market had been up five straight months, leading many to declare it overvalued. Sure enough, the market experienced a sell-off in November that appears to be due to profit-taking and sentiment rather than anything else. After all, third-quarter corporate earnings have come in strong. That pullback has created opportunities in both the high-flying technology sector and other non-tech industries that have lagged behind artificial intelligence (AI) darlings this year. Value investors should take note of these three names and…
