California’s experiment in climate governance has turned the state’s oil and refining sector into one of the most politically charged energy battlegrounds in the world. A long-standing commitment to environmental targets – culminating in a planned end to oil extraction by 2045 – has collided with the realities of high demand, aging infrastructure, and a shrinking refining base. As output falls and refineries close, the state’s reliance on…

Weekly candlestick chart of gold. Source: TradingView Mining ratios further reinforce this case. Nature produces gold and silver at roughly 7:1, yet the market still prices them close to 80:1. First Majestic Silver CEO Keith Neumeyer has long argued that this imbalance must narrow, and past cycles support that view. After previous ratio peaks in 1991 and 2020, silver outpaced gold over the following 6 to 24 months. Even with this year’s surge, considerable catch‑up potential remains. China’s Voracious Appetite: The Dragon Awakens While Western investors debate silver’s value, China has been aggressively accumulating. By Myra P. Saefong A political shift in Venezuela could ‘eventually increase output,’ says a CIBC energy trader Any Venezuela conflict isn’t automatically synonymous with tight global oil supplies, according to Rebecca Babin at CIBC Private Wealth.
