It’s ironic that blockchain technology, which was created to allow the cryptocurrency bitcoin to be sent to anyone with an internet connection, without the need for a bank, is now being adopted by the very institutions it was designed to circumvent.
Over the next decade, digital assets, represented on distributed ledgers, will overhaul financial markets. The technology will boost liquidity, democratise markets and reduce the cost of capital, its proponents say.
