Addis Ababa, October 30, 2025 (ENA) – The contribution of manufacturing has been showing year-on-year growth, Industry Minister Melaku Alebel said.

According to him, Ethiopia’s manufacturing sector is improving every year and helping the economy.

The Made in Ethiopia campaign has contributed toward boosting industry capabilities and increasing production levels, the Minister noted.

In an exclusive interview with ENA, Mekalu Alebel told ENA that the Made in Ethiopia campaign has increased production by uncovering what the sector can do and enhancing outputs.

He stated that awareness of manufacturers in making use of Ethiopia’s rich natural resources and human resource to boost domestic production as well as increase exports has been created.

Challenges faced by the industrial sector, both short and long-terms, have been dealt with, leading to a growth in local production capabilities and import substitution.

The Made in Ethiopia campaign is boosting the production capacity of small and medium enterprises, he said.

Looking back at the growth of the manufacturing sector, he revealed that the sector grew by 4.8 percent in 2014 Ethiopian Fiscal Year (EFY) climbed to 10.3 percent in the 2017 EFY, and is expected to go beyond 12 percent this 2018 EFY.

Melaku added that this trend shows strong economic growth.

The advancements made by the campaign show its significant role in strengthening the Ethiopian economy.

Recall that Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed told the 5th regular meeting of the House of People’s Representatives that the industry sector had 3.7 percent share of the GDP in 2017 EFY.
