Guangzhou sees economic growth across an array of industries

Guangzhou, the Guangdong provincial capital, reached a gross domestic product valued at more than 2.3 trillion yuan ($324.86 billion) in the first three quarters of the year, up 4.1 percent year-on-year.

The growth indicates Guangzhou”s economic operation maintains a steady and positive momentum, a statement released by the city’s statistics bureau said on Thursday.

According to the bureau’s statistics, the city’s added value of the primary industry reached 19.79 billion yuan, an increase of 4.2 percent year-on-year, while the added value of the secondary and third industries in the first nine months hit 556.44 billion yuan and 1.75 trillion yuan, up year-on-year 2.7 percent 4.6 percent, respectively.

In the first three quarters, Guangzhou’s total output value of agriculture, forestry, animal husbandry, and fishery came to 39.57 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 4.6 percent.

Among key agricultural products, driven by the bumper harvest of lychees, the output of fruits increased by 12 percent, and the output of aquatic products continued to grow, achieving a year-on-year increase of 4.3 percent.

And in characteristic agriculture, flowers and ornamental fish maintained a good growth momentum, with their output values rising by 5 percent and 34.5 percent, respectively, the statement said.

Among the three pillar industries, the output of new energy vehicles accelerated, with the cumulative output increasing by 20.6 percent year-on-year.

The electronic product manufacturing industry and the petrochemical manufacturing industry maintained a steady growth momentum, with their added values increasing by 2 percent and 6.1 percent, respectively.

Guangzhou’s total retail sales of consumer goods reached 815.759 billion yuan in the first three quarters, a year-on-year increase of 4.1 percent, it added.
