Amazon to refund millions in $2.5B Prime settlement

Amazon will refund millions after settling an FTC lawsuit over Prime subscriptions and cancelation issues.

Amazon will pay some Prime users up to $51 after a $2.5 billion settlement with the Federal Trade Commission.

The retail giant agreed to the settlement to resolve an antitrust lawsuit filed by the FTC in 2023, in which federal officials alleged that Amazon coerced millions of consumers into enrolling in Prime subscriptions and then made those agreements extremely difficult to cancel.

In order to be eligible for the claim, Amazon users must have signed up for Prime between June 23, 2019, and June 23, 2025, according to the court order. Customers must have also tried to cancel the subscription with failure or signed up for Prime through one of several avenues.

Here’s everything you need to know about how to get money from the Amazon settlement.

How do I get money from the settlement?

It depends.

Two different settlement groups will be issued money depending on the circumstances of their case.

The first group to receive an automatic payment without having to even file a claim is those who used their Amazon Prime benefits three or fewer times during any 12 months of enrollment. Customers who qualify for this settlement should receive their payment by Dec. 24, 2025.

Those who do not qualify for the automatic payments still have the opportunity to file a claim. A third-party claim administrator will send out information on how to file a claim by Jan. 23, 2026. However, eligible claimants will have to wait until July 23, 2026, to submit the claim.

When will Amazon settlement money be sent out?

Here’s the timeline of payments, per Amazon:

  • Customers who qualify for automatic payments will receive them by Dec. 24, 2025.
  • The third-party claims administrator will send information on how to make claims by Jan. 23, 2026.
  • Eligible claimants have until July 23, 2026, to submit the forms.
