(WRGB) – Companies across the Capital Region are actively recruiting individuals for high-tech manufacturing jobs that do not require a college degree.
Assemblyman Angelo Santabarbara (D – Rotterdam) has dedicated an entire week to highlight the importance of manufacturing, recently touring P1 Industries in Schenectady. The company, known for its advanced machining and fabrication, serves critical sectors such as power generation, aerospace and defense, and oil and gas.
Santabarbara also spotlighted Mohawk Fabric Company in Amsterdam, a small, family-owned textile manufacturer, during one “manufacturing week.”
Santabarbara emphasized the evolving nature of manufacturing jobs, stating, “They need that skilled labor, and once you have that skill, that makes you a very valuable employee. You don’t necessarily need to have a four-year degree or go on to that type of higher education. And the other thing is from the employees that I talk to, these are good paying jobs. They come with benefits. And I find the camaraderie, the teamwork, they make an effort.”
The demand for skilled labor is growing as many workers in the trades approach retirement age.
