British TikTok influencer Brooke George is facing a murder charge after fatally stabbing her boyfriend in Dubai.

The 23-year-old from Gravesend, Kent, has been charged with the premeditated murder of a 26-year-old British man she met online. George, however, claims she acted in self-defence after enduring repeated physical abuse during their relationship.

UK TikTok influencer Brooke George faces a possible firing squad in Dubai after stabbing allegations

The BBC has reported that George met the man online before travelling to Dubai to meet him. She had described their first trip as perfect, where she was having “the time of my life”. However, circumstances reportedly changed drastically during her second visit. According to George, her boyfriend turned controlling and abusive.

According to the alleged assailant’s mother, Thereza George, Brooke George called her in “a state of panic” after the alleged abuse. She said, “When I spoke to Brooke right after the incident, she was absolutely terrified. She was crying uncontrollably. I could see that one of her eyes was badly swollen and was beginning to close.”

The BBC reports that friends booked her a flight back to the UK, but she returned to the apartment to collect her passport before the incident occurred.

According to George, she picked up a kitchen knife and stabbed the man in self-defence. She was later arrested at Dubai airport and charged with murder.

Radha Stirling, chief executive of Detained in Dubai, which is assisting George, has said that George’s case should be dealt with as one of domestic abuse and not relegated to the firing squad. She said, “We are calling for Brooke to be released on bail pending the outcome of the investigation. The UAE has a well-documented history of criminalising and revictimising women who report violence.”

Stirling has openly said that George’s case raises serious questions about domestic violence against women and their right to self-defence, especially for British nationals detained abroad.
